Millions of people have used Botox as a great way to reduce the presence of facial lines and wrinkles. Originally approved by the FDA almost 30 years ago, botox was originally used for the treatment of eye muscle problems including twitches and involuntary spasms. In 2002, the FDA recognized its use as a cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines located between the eyebrows of your face. In 2013, the FDA approved its use as a treatment for the wrinkles found in the corners of your eyes, commonly referred to as crow’s feet. With the botox treatments we provide at Rockwell Oral and Facial Surgery, you can help reduce and erase years of age from your face.
Botox is a simple, effective, and most importantly safe treatment. Botox procedures, along with similar medication, were performed over 4.5 million times in 2016. In fact, botox is the #1 most common nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S.!
When receiving our botox treatment, there is very little needed from you before coming into our office. If there are any issues in your medical history such as allergies or medical condition you may have, be sure to let us know before the procedure in case there are any conflicts or precautions that need to be taken.
Depending on the location of the procedure, you may need to remove makeup and have the treatment area cleaned. While it is a case-by-case basis for each patient, we may recommend the avoidance of medicine that will thin your blood and increase the risk of bruising, such as aspirin.
Botox does its job by temporarily blocking the pathways used by nerve signals that can also cause muscle contractions. This relaxes the wrinkles and facial lines around your eyes and between your eyebrows, providing an improved appearance for an extended period.
Aside from the aforementioned improvements, botox can also moderate the development of new wrinkles by keeping the facial muscles from constricting.
During a regular botox visit, we will use a thin needle to administer a few strategically placed injections around the targeted area. Typically, three small injections are used on either side of the eye to reduce the visibility of the lines around your eyes, or ‘crow’s feet.’ All in all, you can expect the procedure to only last about ten minutes and you will be on your way in no time.
After the botox procedure, most patients can return to whatever they were doing without issue or worry. We do recommend you avoid touching or rubbing the targeted area, as this can displace the botox and cause it to move away from the treatment area. This might hinder your overall results, and we want to make sure you get the best possible results from our treatments. When receiving a botox injection between your eyebrows, lying down or bending over in the immediate hours after a procedure can cause the botox to move to your eye socket, creating a temporary drooping of the eyelid. We want to avoid any side effects and will of course explain all of this to you before you leave our office.
The vast majority of the patients we have the pleasure of working with experience no downtime from our botox treatment, and are back to their everyday lives without skipping a beat. You should expect to see the results come to full fruition within one to two days after receiving our treatment. These results will usually stay with you for about four months, but can have a lasting impact longer than that due to the relaxing of muscles and less creasing of the muscles incurred due to the treatment.
